3ncrypt3d Club Kicks off the 2022-2023 School Year
On August 10th, 3ncrypt3d Club kicked off the 2022-2023 school year in their first official meeting, with over 30 members in attendance! Among the familiar faces were many new members, including many from IT Essentials, CCNA I, and CCNA II.
The meeting began with Club Officer Elections in which Alejandra Aguilera was voted President, Nicholas Douty was voted Vice President, Khanh Vy Lee was voted Secretary, Tammy Dinh and Valeria Ramirez were voted Treasurers, and Gabriella Alfaro was voted Historian. For this year, it was decided that there would not be a CTO (Chief Technical Officer), and that there would be two Treasurers, as both were highly qualified for the position.
After voting on the Constitution, President Aguilera and Vice President Douty were quick to get to work, and immediately began discussing the basics of Cryptography. President Aguilera discussed the Caesar Cipher and how it works by shifting the letters of the alphabet, then challenged members to decrypt the given encrypted message, using the cipher provided.
Vice President Douty then suggested it would be beneficial that members learn more about the Caesar Cipher by going to Code.org, and encrypting and decrypting their own messages using their own shift substitutions, which is how the rest of the day was spent.
Members this meeting were also given a bit of a sneak peak as to what is to come, in terms of competitions. Coach Smith and President Aguilera discussed that mock teams would be made in the meetings to come, to go over a practice image for the upcoming competition, CyberPatriot.
