Cyber Patriot Sneak Peek Round!

Fourth 3ncrypted club meeting of the 2025-2026 school year – 09/25/25
This meeting got us our one and only glimpse into what Cyber Patriot would hold! The sneak peek round is held once a year and only open during that day, luckily our meeting fell right on this day! This time around it was a mixture of Windows and Linux Mint, but both were official one time Cyber Patriot images.

These images provided to us by Cyber Patriot were a lot more in depth compared to our previous images. They provided scenarios that you have to imagine yourself in. Following that with context as to what is happening in your position. Then instructions as to what your company expects you to do.
Similar to the actual competition and our practice images, there is also a scoring system here. It scored simple things, such as simply updating apps or deleting files that shouldn’t be there. Which then progresses to harder things like making sure certain users weren’t allowed access to unauthorized directories. A good amount of these tasks were not directly mentioned in the instructions either, only briefly mentioned. The firewall could have been off or there may be hidden software that the company doesn’t know about. So you must be vigilant in the time we will have in our competition and make sure to check everywhere! Start from the simplest tasks and then progress to more complex ones.

We were also lucky enough to have the official category lists for the vulnerabilities we should look out for in both images. Including the Ubuntu Linux list of what seems to be the exact amount of problems in that category, or perhaps it is just a list of what to study.
That is all for today’s meeting! It was an important day today and if you missed it make sure to check out Oak Hills Tech for other official Cyber Patriot practice images. We will also be forming teams next week so study lots and be prepared to show a good performance! Competition is soon so be curious and study the topics shown in the lists!
