January 12th – PicoCTF
For this meeting, Chief Technical Officer, Emiliano Guzman started the club meeting by introducing the new activity, PicoCTF.
PicoCTF is a website that is similar to the CTF that Coach Smith has launched but there is a difference in the level of difficulty. PicoCTF can be more difficult but at the same time, it helps teach members how to solve different questions from different categories such as forensic questions, cryptography, web exploitation, reverse engineering, etc. Not only that but there are questions that help users understand how to use the web shell and different commands that can be helpful which can also help save time when solving a question.
With that, club members began creating accounts and logging into PicoCTF to be able to participate in the practice gym. While some members did some practice in the practice gym, there were others who decided to register for the Beginner’s PicoCTF Competition. For this competition, many of the questions are based on the programming language, python, and using different commands on the web shell to access different scripts and editing them in order to find the answers that are needed to solve each question.
Members also had the option of going back to Coach Smith’s CTF on his server in case they got stuck on Pico and needed to gain a new perspective by looking at different questions.
