November 3rd – VMs and Notes

For today’s meeting, many members were able to continue their work of developing their notes for Round 2. However, it was different compared to how members took their notes in the previous meetings. Instead, they took advantage of the VMs for Linux, Windows Server, Windows 10.

For Windows 10, members went back to the CyberPatriot Practice Image from Troy High School since it was an image close to the round images. It was more accurate due to the fact that it scored each security issue that was resolved. Not only that but it also had a PDF form of the answer sheet so members could be able to take notes on security issues that they were unaware about so that they can be able to write it down in their notes and apply it for the next round.

As for Windows Server, they were able to install an .iso file and created a new VM so they can be able to be more familiar with Windows since it was similar to Windows Server and make changes to the settings without having to mess with the Host PC.

Similar actions were applied for members that were working on Linux, they were able to download an .iso file and set up an Ubuntu VM so members can be more used with the terminal by practicing new commands which can speed up the process of resolving security issues and make changes to the Host computer as mentioned before without having to mess with the Host PC.

With that, members were also able to help each other out and ask around for help so they can be able to gain confidence on working on their images for Round 2.
