September 29th – CyberPatriot Teams and Official Practice Images

For today’s meeting, an estimation of 20-23 members have arrived to officially start their training for CyberPatriot. Before the rounds begin for CyberPatriot, they send out a file that includes practice images for Ubuntu, Windows Server, and Windows 10. Not only that but Coach Smith has also introduced the Networking Challenge which CCNA 2 members or experienced members would be taking on by studying the modules that are found in Netacad so they can be able to have an idea of what to expect and what to do. Shortly after, members were advised that the first official CyberPatriot Round would take place on Saturday, October 23rd and how each image would be scored.

After these announcements, members began to unzip the files, checking the checksums of the files, and opening the image. As mentioned before, there would be three images which would be Windows Server, Windows 10, and Ubuntu. Many of the beginning members began with Windows 10 while intermediate and more experienced members were able to go to Windows Server and Ubuntu. As members were working together to gain points and getting their hands dirty with these images, President Gutierrez began to set up official teams and ended up creating 5 teams. These 5 teams are DogBytes, OHHSTech, WatchDogs, DigitalDogs, and CyberHounds. Names of each member will be listed below.

As the meeting came to an end, many members were able to get an average of 60-70 points on their images with the help of experienced members. One important thing that was used heavily during these practice images by members was notebooks. In these notebooks, they held important steps to be able to complete certain tasks that will help members get points in these images such as how to disable guest accounts, what password policies to place, and which programs to uninstall. There are many things that one person can’t remember on the top of their head so it would be safer and helpful to take notes especially since notebooks will be allowed during competition.
