SoCal Cyber Cup Qualifier Round 2026!

SoCal Cyber Cup of the 2025-2026 School Year – 05/2/26

The SoCal Cyber qualifier round of the 2025-2026 school year has been concluded! The competition was held from April 30th through May 2nd, and Oak Hills competed on May 2nd from 8:30 AM – 2:30 PM. The competition continues to stay on Cyber Skyline with no significant changes. Two teams completed from Oak Hills this year, DogBytes and OakHillsTech.

Team Placements

There were a grand total of 132 competing teams this year. With one of our teams making it to the finals.

Out of both teams DogBytes had the highest placement, making it into the top 10. This team consisted of many veteran club members and some newer ones. The members were: James C, Ethan M, Jacob O, Paige G, Caleb T, Daniel C, Aaryan V, and Santos Q. They managed to finish every question with an alright accuracy.

Our second team OakHillsTech did not make a placement as high as Dogbytes, however they did have a respective placement of 32nd. This team consisted of a lot more new competitors and a few heavy hitters. The members in this team were: Zavien Z, Cali N, Jonathan P, Ananya V, Abraham N, Jack T, Jonathan H, and Daniel H.

Score Review

Now on the topic of scores there is a lot to discuss. A major contributor to the teams placements is the accuracy and time. Both need to be accounted for when determining the rankings of the finished teams. While both teams did get respectable placements, their accuracy could have been much better. Even a bump of 10-20% could have landed DogBytes much higher, but the time would still have to be taken into account. OakHillsTech isn’t free of this either with a low accuracy as well, so it isn’t just a singular team disregarding this.

Debrief

Now all things considered our teams did well, even if accuracies were low. There was a lot of teamwork displayed more than there was in the Mayors Cup, but I do believe there could have been more. Tunnel vision was still a problem and so was not communicating with fellow teammates. Knowing the teams gray areas in knowledge would have done wonders for the time. Besides all that it was a good enjoyable experience that both teams were able to tread through. With only a few weeks left of the school year and one of our teams moving onto finals, we can close this off with good luck!
